London cardinals story

It All Started in 2004.

London Cardinals club held its inaugural meeting, a ‘Demo’ meeting, on 5th July. The club derived its name from the venue where it initially convened, known as ‘The Cardinal,’ located in Francis Street, just behind Westminster Cathedral. Notably, the pub has undergone a subsequent name change and is now known as ‘The Windsor Castle.’

STORY

The Birth Of London Cardinals

London Cardinals came into being when a group of passionate Toastmasters, hailing from another club called London Corinthians, brought their enthusiasm to form a new chapter. London Corinthians, known for its thriving membership, saw the participation of numerous experienced individuals, including several married couples such as The Sellmans, The Cookes, and The Craddocks. The club’s founders, Nigel and Gilly Cutts, played instrumental roles in shaping its early days. Nigel assumed the position of Founding President, while Gilly took on the role of Founding Vice President of Education (VPE). Following a longstanding London Cardinals tradition, Gilly ascended to the presidency the following year.

On November 23rd, 2004, London Cardinals reached a significant milestone as it was officially chartered, marking a momentous occasion in its history. Since its inception, the club has remained steadfast in its commitment to excellence and growth, embodying the spirit of Toastmasters. Today, London Cardinals continues to thrive, fostering a vibrant community of members dedicated to personal and professional development.

Symbolic Identity

The London Cardinals Logo through the Years

The timeless London Cardinals logo was originally created by the talented Gary Cooke. From its inception, the logo has effectively communicated the ownership, quality, and values of the London Cardinals.

In 2023, our dedicated member Marijana Bosnjak took the initiative to update the logo in alignment with the new Toastmasters branding guidelines. With great skill and attention to detail, Marijana made slight modifications to ensure the logo adheres to the branding guidelines while preserving its originality. This meticulous process ensured that the refreshed logo maintains its iconic status and continues to represent the London Cardinals’ identity with pride.

London Cardinals is just the club I needed. It is a warm, encouraging and diverse environment where everyone brings out the best in each other. Whether it be public speaking, interpersonal speaking, leadership, active listening, observing, evaluating or improving memory — there is something valuable to be gained for anyone who joins along.

Great experience! Meetings are well organised for the virtual and in-person format. The club's members and guests are very supportive and you can join meetings as a guest whenever you want until you make the decision to join - personally, it took me only 2 meetings

A great place to practice public speaking with a group of supporting and encouraging members. I had the opportunities to write and deliver speeches, and also receive constructive feedback from other members; it helps to build my confidence speaking in public in a foreign language. High recommend to those who want to improve public speaking skills in English.

A truly supportive and friendly Toastmasters club with a mixture of veteran and novic speakers. I felt at home from day 1 and since joining 3 months ago, my confidence and ability of public speaking has skyrocketed. Possibly the best activity one can do on a Monday evening to develop public speaking skills. I could not recommend it more highly!
